Whatever, but that's the problem confronting the West --- or rather, the West that was.

In my opinion, if there is any single observation that one could say for sure heralded the decline and ultimate demise of our civilization, it has to be that. Profligate debt, failure of industrial production, loss of jobs, corrupt politicians etc, none are irremediable. But reproductive failure --- that's "tickets"!

Of course, in the history of the world, it's no big deal --- civilizations have come and gone and this won't be the last. But it is interesting to see it happening.
