I'm waiting for Solon to tell us if it's all Biblical instruction for real. One shoe? One shoe???? That's a fine???? Now, that's the one that I noticed especially, too. It does seem a rather... slight penalty for refusing to marry your sister in law. First they refuse to marry their sister in law, next thing you know they'll be refusing to marry people of the opposite sex, so that kind of behavior had better be nipped in the bud asap. Oh wait. It says "and be otherwise punished in a manner to be determined by law." So the punishment is probably a fine of one shoe plus having to marry a marmot.
