The movie is a faithful enactment of a central focus of the Gospel

No, it's an interpretation of the Passion, with non-scriptural elements thrown in to add to the interpretation. It could have shown greater fidelity to scripture, but Mel Gibson chose to use some artistic license to heighten the torture/suffering aspect of the story.

Since Gibson's story bears more than a passing influence to the traditional Passion Story as told at Oberammergau (one of Hitler's favorties), it's hardly surprising that it should raise alarms with Jews. This type of Passiona story has lead to cries of "Christ-killer!" and lynch mobs for hundreds of years. Jews remember this. Christians don't, for the most part.

Jews and Christians just don't see the same movie, as Praeger pointed out.
