Before someone was crucified they ripped off that person beard. After doing that not only couldn't you recongnize that person, but you couldn't tell if it was a human

I've read lots of Roman history, and I never heard of that. The Romans would have considered it counter-productive. The Romans wanted the crucified man to be recognized "to encourage the others". That's why, according to the Gospels, the Romans stuck up a sign, "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews". The Romans didn't go in for sarcasm in their executions. They wanted everybody to know what happened to local kings who set themselves against the power of Rome.
