Re: Why are you so sure that Aristide is telling the truth?

While I cannot be 100% certain of Aristide's "facts", they do seem to match up with reality a hell of lot better than the lies, dissembling and half-truths that are being spread by the manure machines in Washington like Powell, Rumsfeld and McClellan.

We not only have Aristide's word, as given to members of the Congressional Black Caucus, we also have the eye-witness report of the Aristide's personal manservant, and the interview conducted with the CEO of Aristide's personal bodyguards from the San Francisco based security firm, Steele Foundation, whose 60 men stood down for a U.S. military contingent that landed by helicopter at the Executive Mansion in Port-Au-Prince after midnight on Sunday morning. His equivocation and non-responses were quite revealing, in the usual way of those who "neither confirm nor deny" facts.

What do you know of NED? What do you know of the history of destabilization of Haiti back to say the time of Toussaint L'Overture? What do you know of the CIA's friends, the Duvaliers? How about SOA's involvement in Haiti? How about FRAPH?

I make accusations against the malignant Bush Administration and accept the word of Aristide because I'm more up to speed than most on the history of U.S. meddling in the internal affairs of Haiti.

And why, sir, do you doubt the word of Aristide, compared to that of known criminal liars like Powell and Rumsfeld?

Re: What does Haiti have that would prompt us to destabilize the country?

Materially speaking, next to nothing. The American intel community and Roger Noriega however are close to Andy Apaid, a Lebanese-American who runs sweatshops in Haiti and was a mortal enemy of Aristide because Aristide attempted to raise the minimum wage in Haiti above $1.60 per day. Apaid stood to lose some of his fabulous income off slave labor and this was anathema to him.

The drug dealers and death squad leaders like Guy Phillipe,
Toto Constante (still apparently resting in a CIA safe house in New York) and others are serious weapons in the U.S. plan for eternal retribution for the 1804 rebellion that created the first free black sovereign state in the Western Hemisphere.

One of the reason the U.S. right wing is so adamant about denying democracy to Haiti is that American ideologues are very nervous about a popular democrat like Duvalier setting "a good example" for other populists throughout Latin America and Africa.

So there you have it. The U.S. right wing's motivations are retribution and suppression of alternate political systems succeeding and showing up the American system.

Re: As for the mainstream press, I think they are doing just fine......esp. print media.

I spoke in terms of "the media", including the means by which most Americans get propagandized, especially TV and talk radio... Currently there are about 320 hours of commercial "talk" radio available nationwide. 315 hours are devoted to fascist, right wing or conservative talk. Only five hours could be called "liberal" or progressive. And you think this is "just fine"? O'Really? Fair and Balanced? Come on now.....

BTW, it appears that you are being a bit imprecise with your terms. A "press" always refers exclusively to "print media". As you've expressed things in the referenced quote, your statement makes little sense.
