The secular audience can, imo, be divided into three categories:

(1) not interested, doesn't see it, pays it no attention
(2) interested, won't see it, is very much against it
(3) interested, will see it, doesn't get all the hoopla

The second category is the most interesting. This category attacks the film for a variety of reasons. They tend to feel very threatened by the christian religion, to the point of avoiding anything that remotely touches upon it.

For example, they will attack the film for deviating from scripture, without actually bothering to read the scripture. This is because they find it emotionally frightening to be exposed to such things.
