ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 2004--Internap(R) Network Services Corporation (AMEX: IIP), the leading provider of performance-based routing technology over the Internet, announced today that Gartner Inc., one of the most respected industry analyst firms, has named Internap as one of the top Internet Service Providers (ISPs) for business.
In the report, Gartner noted that in 2003, "Internap has aggressively entered the performance management space by acquiring two intelligent router-control vendors, netVmg and Sockeye, and is expected to begin to offer a portfolio of end-to-end performance-management solutions, building on its foundation of excellent SLAs and good customer service."
Internap's unique multi-carrier architecture, which uses Private Network Access Points (P-NAPs) to speed Internet traffic from one location to another, allows customer traffic to avoid the congestion and bottlenecks of traditional single-carrier networks. Internap's P-NAPs connect directly to the Internet backbones of multiple carriers in major cities throughout North America, as well as Tokyo and London.
"Only Internap, with our one-of-a-kind overlay network architecture and patented intelligent routing technology, can offer the quality of service and performance that companies demand," said Dave Abrahamson, vice president of sales and chief marketing officer at Internap. "Internap is making the public Internet the 'network of choice' for businesses and other enterprises."
Gartner noted that the outlook for the business-class Internet access market in North America is "promising," according to the MarketScope report. The rating system was based on six key criteria: network architecture and design; service and support; financial viability; pricing; technological exploitation; and service level agreements (SLAs). Gartner rated 13 business ISPs along a scale that ranged from "strong negative" to "strong positive." Internap and four of the other providers received a "positive" rating. None of the ISPs were rated "strong negative" or "strong positive."
