Never heard of Lanier, but this was back in 1980. My host was a major conservative Republican celebrity who took me around to the Houston rodeo parties and set up meetings with very conservative money men including some politicians. The oil prices were very high then and the corruption was as thick as thieves. That's why I know that side of Texas. When it's going great for Texas (high oil prices) it's bad for the rest of the country. In 1980 Texas was the only place in the country that was booming. That is true to an extent now as well. Texas is booming now thanks to all the pork barrel money brought in and the high energy prices. Lesson is, never let Texans run the country. The rest of us will pay and they will fleece us.
