Hi James,

Re: the real problem is Congress and the People letting him get away with trying to force Third World countries into a Twenty First Century role.

I could not agree less. For instance, in 1978, Iraq was the most advanced nation in the Islamic Middle East. The nation was prosperous and offered free health care and education to its citizens. There was a general sense of well being.

25 years of U.S. meddling has reduced that nation to Third World status. And this meddling was an intentional weakening of a very benign regime, which has been painted as evil by the Bushies because the sort of socialism created by the Ba'ath Party was completely anathema to the corrupt crony capitalist class who determine U.S. foreign policy and invariably drive the U.S. to engage in anti-democratic subterfuges destabilizing progressive left-leaning democracies across the planet.

The history of U.S. interventions since WW II is replete with example after example of the U.S. military and the CIA crushing democracy and imposing corrupt oligarchies on nations across the globe.

I get absolutely incensed that George Bush has the gall to say that he hopes to spread "democracy" across the globe. It's a vicious and cruel lie to the hundreds of millions of innocent people who have been the victims of the U.S.'s high handed and completely unfair foreign policies.
