Hi Chip,

I loved New Zealand !!

We fished out of the old whaling town Whangaroa.

In six days we caught:
4 striped Marlin (catch and release all)
3 Yellow fin tuna (ate one)
1 Kahawai Australian Salmon released
many albacore tuna - all released
1 John Dory-released
Many Red Snapper - 2 hit the skillet

Many others not mentioned-all released

We stayed on board the Dyamedia - an old all wood classic boat designed specifically for Marlin fishing and staying onboard.Great old kitchen and 2 double bunk beds. On our first leaving the Marina ,we motored over to a pier and a fisherman handed over 4 live huge lobster.

As we motored North to North Cape we boiled and ate the lobster in a hard roll with Dijon mustard - what a way to start the trip.

I was with two buddies, but it will be a repeat trip with my wife and most likely another couple.

Australia gave us some bad weather in the Burmagui fishing town - had some great estuary fishing but off shore was tough.

Fly fishing in Tasmania was great and would be a repeat trip (caught two 3 pound Brown trout on a fly rod).Beutiful river and lake fishing.I liked the river the best ( McQuarrie).

Tasmania is like going back 35 years in the U.S.A. Everyone supremely friendly.

I bought my wife Jan a Black Opal in Melbourne - so I think I can probably go again.GGG

New Zealand was the best vacation I think I've ever had.

I will go there again unless our trip to Italy in May is just exceptional.Doing it on a BMW so it might be good also.

Plan on doing NewZealand over two trips - one for each island North and South with an RV.Both times I'll go fishing with David Franks on his Dyamedia out of Whangaroa.Best time to fish New Zealand is February/March.

Time lag is huge - still trying to recover.

Let's get this market cranking up !!

Bob
