REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Mar 2, 2004 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Tumbleweed(R) Communications Corp. (TMWD), a leading provider of secure Internet messaging software for businesses, financial services organizations and government agencies, announced today that Perot Systems Corporation, a worldwide provider of information technology services and business solutions, has implemented the Tumbleweed Email Firewall(TM) to deliver anti-spam services to its enterprise customers. As part of its comprehensive set of End User Computing service offerings, Perot Systems provides email management to many of their customers, and currently handles more than 300,000 email boxes for a number of large enterprise clients. Perot Systems has been using Tumbleweed's email firewall since 2002 to deliver anti-virus scanning and content filtering to clients. Over the past 12 months, many of these clients experienced drastically increasing volumes of spam email, and Perot Systems wanted to find an automated, scalable solution to the problem. "We are seeing demand for our email management services because we provide options to our customers such as Tumbleweed's email firewall technology," said Jody Stritch, Perot Systems manager for delivery of global messaging. After implementing Tumbleweed's Dynamic Anti-spam Service(TM) on their email firewall, Perot Systems saw an increase in the spam capture rate, and their customers on average are identifying 69% of all incoming email as spam. "These spam messages are not consuming as much network bandwidth, and our customers are now more productive since they do not have to waste time manually deleting the spam or worry about backing up useless data each night," Stritch added. "In addition, we have been able to significantly increase our spam capture rate without having to spend additional time managing policies on the front end which allows us to focus on developing other value-added services." Perot Systems makes the cost of such options transparent to its customers through flexible unit costing so that its customers can evaluate the true benefit in business terms. About Tumbleweed's Email Firewall Tumbleweed Email Firewall has been recognized as the #1 enterprise software solution for fighting spam according to Network World ( nwfusion.com ), and the #1 email firewall software for large enterprises by Information Security Magazine. Tumbleweed Email Firewall protects, filters and secures email traffic at the Internet gateway with an integrated set of anti-spam, anti-virus, anti-hacker, content filtering, email relay, and encrypted messaging capabilities -- minimizing email communications risks and reducing email management costs. Tumbleweed Email Firewall is used by over 400 of the largest, most demanding messaging infrastructures in the world, and is available in both appliance and software editions. About Tumbleweed's Dynamic Anti-Spam Service The Tumbleweed Dynamic Anti-Spam Service (DAS) is rated as the top anti-spam software and appliance for large enterprises by Network World magazine, and the product is currently used to block over 32 million spam messages per day on behalf of our customers. DAS is an Internet-based subscription service that updates the Tumbleweed email firewall with new heuristic defenses as they are published, similar to the way anti-virus engines work. The email firewall includes a highly effective Spam Analysis Engine, which automates the identification of spam using powerful heuristics-based analysis technology; typical customers see an immediate 90%+ capture rate with one-tenth of one percent false positive rate before tuning. Tumbleweed's Message Protection Lab develops and publishes the heuristic updates: the Lab is staffed by experts who continually analyze spam to identify new spammer trends and tactics, and create and publish new heuristics to stop them. The Lab analyzes both spam and legitimate email gathered internationally and provided by enterprise customers, to ensure that the Dynamic Anti-Spam Service minimizes false positives in a business environment. "IT service providers like Perot Systems are always looking to develop new value-added messaging services to offer to their clients, and our email firewall provides a scalable, differentiated platform for doing so," said Dave Jevans, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Tumbleweed Communications. "Tumbleweed is happy to work with companies like Perot Systems who see the value of a fully-integrated email firewall." |
