Hi Hawkmoon; Re: "Actually, this is how I've been perceiving your opinions." [i.e. black or white]

Yes, and you have no justification for it. Whenever I make a statement, you convert it into some sort of absolute rule that has to be taken to an extreme exaggeration. You do not argue against my position. Instead, you argue only against "black or white" caricatures.

Re: "Isn't this similar to how your average person feels about the police?"

Jesus weeps! The residents of Fallujah let their police get massacred by guerillas without warning despite the fact that the guerillas blockaded traffic and had previously warned the store owners to close up shop (and avoid civilian casualties). Can you really say that in an American town you would be able to do this without SOMEONE calling up the police and warning them? I'd bet half the population would secretly warn the police. I certainly would.

Re: "My view is that we should be UNITED in our efforts to succeed with that goal in Iraq."

I agree. I think that we should be UNITED in our efforts to get out of Iraq as quickly as possible. And do let me remind you that before the invasion, you didn't seem to care so much about unity. You and yours pushed for this war without ever having a significant majority of the American public in favor of it (other than right around when Bush declared victory). Hey, in Vietnam at least Kennedy and Johnson went in with a wide majority of support among the public. If you'd cared about unity, we shouldn't have gone in. Furthermore, before the war, I made it very clear that I would not be knuckling under to any kind of "unity" plea so you have no cause to be surprised.

Re: "The one thing the Soviets and N. Vietnamese didn't have was self-doubt about forcing their own will over the region. And millions suffered and died as a result."

What's your point with all this? Where are you going with your logic? If you're trying to prove that the US is not as effective an occupying power as a Fascist or Communist nation I'll wholeheartedly agree with you. The simplest solution to that little problem is for us to become a dictatorship. Pointing out the FACT that the other guy has a bigger unit than you isn't going to make yours any bigger. What you're doing is engaging in wishful behavior, not problem solving.

Re: "We simply no longer have the luxury of waiting."

Our troops are already beginning their pullout of Iraq and the place they're leaving is killing Iraqis faster than at any time since May. Bush is pulling out. Get used to it.

Hell, I might even vote for him again.
