Flat fee FOMA 3G data

DoCoMo announced that they are planning to offer flat-rate 3G/FOMA data service plans sometime this summer.

This is quite a change to the prevalent business model for mobile communications, and it means that DoCoMo is driving the move away from telecom-type thinking (i.e. a per-minute/per-megabyte-style business model.

Sooner or later (in my experience, in about 3-4 years) this trend will also move to Europe and US.

It also means that the business models for DoCoMo will become more complex, they'll need to add functionality and penetration. One big move in this direction are the wallet-phone services to be introduced soon, see:
