Scott; If Power cherry picks it must be for a reason. Perhaps the per unit fee is so high that the low end items cannot be made competitively?
As I see it the only way is to open it up to everyone to make clones via my method, os some similar open and free method that gives a return to Apple. So they lose hardware share, how much hardware does Microsoft make, mice KB, joystix? What Microsoft makes is money. So does Intel. IBM makes no(tiny $) software $ from their OS, and IBM makes no $ from CPUs(except the Cyrix foundried stuff) There may be a chance for Apple to recoup(instead of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory as they have done these past few years). They must build a new modus with an assembly of software(OS) profits, CPU sales profits and what they build and sell via their own hands. ADjustment of the prices of CPUs and OSs would allow Apple to profit from clone sales without making them so cheap that they kill Apple. Do not forget they are in a desperate race against time. Their numbers are shrinking daily.
NeXt?, by the time any vestige of next shows in rhapsody it will just be a vestige to allow Jobs to say 'I was right', as the CPU and architecture will be so different as to never run next software, the name will endure for questionable reasons.
