OK C2,
Now that you have fanned the flames... and with the full knowledge that our intelligence capabilities are, shall we say, somewhat spotty... it falls to you to choose our best option:
1. Do nothing and trust in the rule of law?
2. Take the cash we "found" in Iraq and spend it on more Intel assets?
3. Do a secret deal with Israel to do unto Hamid Gul & Co before he does unto us?
4. Take the Genie by the horns and "Prevent War" all of Pakistan? [ed., this is our "altruistic" option] Or
5. Increase supplies of iodine and send our "Light Brigade" into the Valley of "Hindu Kush" Death anyway?
I myself am at a loss.
But the thought crosses my mind that the disclosure of this sordid tale smacks of someone, orchestrating something, for someone else's benefit.
Is it possible that mysterious planners are planning to expedite Mush's "departure" in the hopes that the Gulites will follow on with something so rash that we might be forced into 4 above? Goodness knows that there must be a multitude of nations, including our own, who might give room and board to such mystery planners.
Indeed, I would not be at all surprised if OBL weren't sitting atop a minor conventional weapon supplied by Pakistan's Gulite derivatives even as we speak; planning to set it off in his final minutes before capture; and wondering what is taking us so long to arrive.
After all old A.K. and the Gulites could have cared less who they sold the stuff to. And could easily be lead to believe that the dirty deed would be done far far away from their lovely mountain vistas. Moreover, even posthumously, OBL would have little trouble convincing his Arab "heirs and assigns" that the Evil Americans were the ones who released the Genie in their relentless persecution of his holiness.
Hmmmmmmm, I wonder...
If I could just get Carl to research the nitty gritty for me, I might be able to turn this sucker into the next big Tom Clancy novel! <Hoo><Hoo>
Of course I'd have to put "By NightOwl - as told to Carl Bilow" on the manuscript, but the movie rights would be all mine! <g>
I think we'll call the hero/protagonist "Carranza." Yes, Ex Navy Seal, Ex Patriot "Frank Carranza" should do just fine. Heck, I might even get FL to write some blurbs for the back cover.
...He ain't gettin' no free copies though! <vbg>
