I went to an ophthalmologist two weeks ago. I was wandering around Walmart when the florescent lights started flashing and lots of little squiggles started floating around my right eye. I thought it was a migraine visual (I get the visuals without the pain). But they never went away and there was a fog around lights. Of course, I knew right away that I had a brain tumor, a separated retina and advanced glaucoma, along with some form of fast onset cataracts so I called the doctor and told him that I had to be seen immediately or I wouldn't be able to drive there as I would be blind or dead in another day.
He was very nice. They did they drops and he said he could see the floaters, and then he said the unforgivable thing. He asked how old I was and when I told him, he said that as you get OLD, these fatty things separate from your optic nerve or something and float around. That's TWO unforgivable things, now that I think about it. OLD and FAT. The weird thing is that while the right eye is nothing to worry about, he said that I was starting to get a slight partial retinal tearing in the other eye and if I saw more bright lights and floaters in that one, to come in immediately. We were just about to leave for LA and I asked if I were going to die before we got back, and he said no, probably not, and probably not anyway. Was I going to go blind? PRobably not. So I have put it far down on the list of things to worry about this month. I did ask if there were eye exercises to get rid of the fat. He and his nurse looked at each other in a way that I didn't like. I thought I was funny. I think they were just hoping I would leave and go blind before I could find my way back. |
