If you deem certain skills essential as opposed to equipment or weapons, you will have to license and monitor all tech workers - Big Brother run amok. I'm sure Ashcroft would love that.

If the WTO ever comes crashing down, the world will rip us a new one in the ensuing trade wars. The whole debt-fueled WalMart culture would collapse when the Chinese and Japanese stop buying our bonds to keep their export markets alive.

I expect a big political backlash but few practical steps to stop an inexorable economic trend.
