Yes he initially wasn't keen on combat (who would be?) but once he got into it he went gung ho and was a great leader.

The Globe series presents Kerry warts and all. He's not perfect but coming out of it, he's clearly a hero, certainly more heroic than the Nixon White House which sought to smear and detroy him and perpetuate their lies and that God-awful war.

Was he ambitious? Yes. Was he elitist. Maybe. But was he sincere? Absolutely. And he was never a radical. Those arond him may have been but he never was. He was a straight-shooter and a very respectable character.

"Scott Camil, a former WWAW leader, said Kerry "was not as radical as some of the rest of us. He was a pretty straight shooter, and he came under criticism for things that weren't fair."
