Hostility and fear towards business rivals is probably a natural human reaction. I remember when Japan started making superior automobiles and buying up US real estate, everyone was terrified by Japan, but time has passed (and Japan has bent over backwards to cooperate with American interests). Now Japan just fascinates us.

I don't think there is much American antipathy towards India or Indians. India is cool. India has cool music, and cool food, and cool people who speak English. India is the home of sitar music and the Kama Sutra and butter chicken aka chicken tikka masala, the new "national dish of Britain." India is the home of Bollywood and beautiful women.

One thing I agree with Howard Dean, former Democrat presidential candidate, about, is that we need to think about the justice and wisdom of relocating American businesses in order to exploit foreign workers. We can't expect other countries to have the same laws that protect workers and protect their environments as we do, but it should be illegal to import goods into the United States that were made by exploitation of the workers and destruction of the environment.

Any anger which is directed towards those evils - companies which exploit their workers and destroy the environment - is fair, because that's not fair competition.

As for government subsidies and tariffs - I oppose those 100% - but if others do it to us, then retaliation may be needed.
