A soldier in the trenches has to be sensitive to changing situations and change with it. But at the same time like the generals should be capable of articulating the broad strategy and in the case of a President the broad vision and philosophy. Kerry does not only possess those qualities but he has demonstrated them very well, whether it be in Vietnam or his several runs for the Senate. By being flexible and able to respond to changing situation he has won tough Senate races including this race for the nomination where the pundits started to sing his swan song.
