Cover Story: Drug Store News, Aug. 21, 1995. "Filling the Bill
for today's cost-conscious customer....To meet the demand of both
third-party and cash segments, the market continues to move to
generics".

The late Lewis Engman (President of the Generic Pharmaceutical Industry) in a letter to President Clinton and at the
time Senate Majority Leader Robert Dole. Just before his unexpected death, Engman's that is.

"The debate over how to balance the federal budget is loaded with difficult choices, but one Painless option would be to limit Medicaid reimbursement for multi-source drugs to the generic price." "Under such a policy nearly $10 billion in savings can be realized without any sacrifice in existing benefits, in quality, or in physician or consumer choice". "If a consumer wishes to buy a more expensive brand-name drug when an equally effective generic medicine is available, he shouldn't expect American taxpayers to pay the difference."

Maybe the no more first tiered drugs means the late Engman's word did
not go on deaf ears now that ranitidine is available and a balanced budget is at hand. Please post any additional news on this item ASAP. Good or Bad. Wouldn't surprise me if the Federal government is the last to make the switch to Generics. Maybe MYLAN will benefit?
