Hootowl,

The Ghost Dancer analogy is admittedly far from perfect, the point of it being that there are groups who are not bound by rational risk/reward calculations, that think psychotically, and that these manias sometimes affect a goodly number of individuals.

You might recall that the Ghost Dancers thought that bullets wouldn't kill them. This was why I mentioned them, and thought I had tempered the statement by mentioning Wounded Knee in the same breath.

Islamists suffer from a similar irrational mania. But as Wounded Knee evidenced, the non-fantasizers are not immune from manias either.

My point, which no one has answered, is this: other than by the threat of severe sanctions, how do we enlist Islamic leaders in our quest to stamp out manias and murderous Islamist cults before they get their hands on dirty or "clean" nuke and inlfict serious damage? Mollycoddling them, as we have thus far have done with the Saudis, has been proven not to work.
