The political squeeze over jobs is on

James Walsh is a seven term Congressman fronm Syracuse NY. He is enormously popular and powerful in Central New York State because he is a porkmeister of the first order. However his voting record, other than budget issues, puts him squarely in the Conservative camp. I believe he rates 100% with most Conservative voting record indexes.

Walsh just introduced legislation to prohibit the US Government from doing business with US firms who have more than 50% of their employees offshore. Syracuse, just lost Carrier Corp, a division of United Technologies, a major defense contractor. Walsh's seat would seem to be safe in conservative Central NY. For a Bushie like Walsh to introduce this legislation indicates that he is getting some real pressure from the home folks. Can you imagine the pressure in Ohio. Bush has promised 3.6 million in retraining funds for the Carrier workers losing their jobs. But Bush is long on promises short on delivery, when it comes to funds for the average Joe.

BTW: The editorialists in the Upstate NY papers are raking Bush for the "outsourcing is good" remark. They shot that arrow in the air and it came to earth squarely in Bush's butt. They'll never get that one back in the quiver.
