I think you have me mixed up with somebody else.

Your posts on SI have indicated that you think all these people are "underserving." "Sucklings" off the "public tit," ... something along those lines. You don't LIKE "them," seemed ........

What such posts? I have never used those terms. You're thinking of somebody else.

I have paid in to Social Security all my life, on the basis that I would collect when my turn came. My turn is coming. I would have been happier -- and wealthier -- if Social Security had never been developed. But it was, and I've paid my dues, and I intend to collect on them.

It was a generation or two ahead of mine that got the freebies, collecting for the rest of their lives when they had only been paying in few years. But that's not my situation.

I've never counted up how much SS tax I've paid over the past 40 plus years, but since I've been self-employed for a chunk of those years and thus paid double, it's been a healthy chunk of change. I would be a lot richer now if I had been allowed to keep and invest all that money. But nope.

So I feel no conflict at all with my principles when I get the money back from you instead of from my own savings.
