Unfortunately I do and it is based in fact.
Oh, really, you have facts? Please show us one, then. You haven't yet.
Go back to your 67 borders, Israel will have 77% of the land and both groups will have achieved their land through terror
Are you under the impression that Palestinian terror only started post 1967? Again you are wrong. It long predates it. It predates the creation of the state, in fact. And Jordan sent fedayeen to blow up civilians all through the fifties. The PLO was founded in 1964, before the "occupation" came into being.
In 2000, the negotiations at Taba did not fall apart over land. The two sides had agreed on borders. It fell apart over the "right of return", which is the right to destroy Israel by swamping it with millions of "refugees", the great majority of whom never saw the places they are supposed to be refugees from.
The problem with a land for peace deal is that Arafat does not want a compromised peace, which is the only kind on offer. He was offered enough land so he could go back and say he had got his entire 23% back - it was 100% of the territories, with a few land swaps and adjustments. That was Clinton's proposal at Taba. Arafat saw it as a trap, and in his own words, "turned over the table", refusing without a counter, and upping the terrorism, trying to get the deal without giving anything up, without signing a peace or declaring the end to the conflict.
Get it through your head, if 95% with land swaps to make 100% is not good enough, then this conflict is not about borders. Not even a crazy man commits his people to another generation of war for the sake of 2%, not when he was offered a way to claim he had got his 100% already.
This war is being fought so the Palestinians do not have to accept that they cannot destroy Israel. They prefer to win an acre of rubble, rather than sign a peace and get a whole state in prosperity. Because they will have won the rubble in blood and honor and they can still cling to the dream of destroying Israel. Arafat cannot give up the dream of being a second Saladin, (Saladin drove the Crusaders out of Jerusalem in 1189) and of course Hamas and Islamic Jihad follow him every step of the way.
Think of it this way. Have you ever, once, heard Arafat talk of what he'd like Palestine to become, what he wants to build in Palestine? Not once. Arafat does not dream of building a state, but destroying a state. Of destroying Israel.
That is why Israel is building the walls for a siege. Because the war will continue no matter what Israel does, so Israel prepares its defenses. |
