Even in Belgium, less than 20% of the population is bilingual

I spent a month working at the parachute school in Schaffen and again later in Brussels. Every native I met spoke at least two languages.
Dutch and French are the two official languages of Belgium. Both are taught in school along with English. Many, many others speak fluent English and/or German. Often those who speak fluent German do not readily admit it.
