We were doing the twist then.

The twist killed partner dancing. It went into the studios for the next 20 years. Social dancing is the best activity I know of for meeting people and staying active in a coed world. Every weekend Hotels all over the world are full of people getting together for a weekend of lessons, dancing and socializing. "West Coast" is the major dance in the US, and almost every major town has this happening.

Everybody who says they can't learn is kidding themselves. It is not that hard. It just takes the determination to spend an hour or so a week in the practice hall for about six months. And it opens a new world to you. I have got quite a few people here at SI to get off their ass and do it.

I see what happens to people here on vacation when they don't dance. They spend their evenings either getting drunk in a bar, or back in their hotel room watching TV. The ones who can dance spend their evenings dancing and meeting the local dancers.

No use setting at home on the shelf,
come hear the music play,
life is a cabaret old friend,
come to the cabaret
