The Second World War was ended when the US attacked Japan with nuclear weapons.

The Korean War was quickly ended when the incoming Eisenhower Administration back-channeled the North Koreans that the use of nuclear weapons was the next step-absent a negotiated settlement.

The Soviets were prevented from intervening for Egypt in the failed Yom Kippur War in 1973 by the threat of nuclear weapons.

Two administrations from two parties considered the use of nuclear weapons against North Vietnam, and both made the same mistake of rejecting the option.

The historical results indicate that the last example was a major error-overcome only when a future president, Ronald Reagan, destroyed the Soviet Union-by building nuclear weapons.

We have begun to develop smaller-scale nuclear weapons to use as necessary against third world terrorist nations in the wake of 91101. While they may NEVER be used, the decision is likely to have to be made eventually.

Only an insane moron, or a passionate America-hater, would want John Kerry in the Oval office when that decision comes up...
