If the brute is a secular liberal he's OK, but if he's a religious conservative he's not?
You've just defined Gibson as a brute, and drawn a parallel between a rapist and a movie maker. That's rather extreme of you, and I'd say that with friends like you, Gibson doesn't need enemies. Personally, I've never defined Gibson as a brute, and don't know whether he is one or not. He sure likes blood and gore and sadistic portrayals, but that doesn't necessarily make him, personally, a brute, imho.
He's some other things, and one could express opinions and impressions based on his work and comments about what those things might be... but 'brute'? Not established, imo.
