Hobart3-4232 MAin something. The "something" is long gone. Okay, you ancients. How many of you are going to admit to actually using a hand crank phone with a live operator at the other end, and when the operator went to bed that was the end of phone service for that night? South China 8 ring 2. That was the number. For you young'uns, which probably includes Rambi, that's party line 8, 2 rings. But of course we also picked it up (quietly, naturally) if was 8 ring 4, because that was Auntie's house and we wanted to know who was calling her. If we ever picked up on any of the other calls, I'm not admitting it.
