Oh Pound is fascinating! Charleymane may know more about him than I do, though.

He lived with Yeats for three winters and they ended up having great influence on each other. Together they created Modernism in poetry. Pound was a polymath, really brilliant, fluent in five or six languages (all of which he used in The Cantos). But he was a Fascist, a Mussolini supporter, was arrested and held in a detention camp during WWII, and later hospitalized at St. Elizabeth's Hospital until his death, I believe.

Sanity's a tough thing. It's a legal term, not a psychiatric one, and the US authorities, I believe, wanted to see his influence diminished after the war and so committed him.
