I agree with most of your post until the last sentence; I am not a big fan of Kerry as an individual but nothing in his positions strike me as unreasonable for what he is trying to do.

As the campaign goes on, we will probably see a message from him much like what you outlined. Then the polls will tell the tale.

The Bush campaign seems rather desperate - and unsuccessful so far - at regaining the initiative after Kerry's nomination campaign success.

Public sentiment about Iraq may shift gradually as the off-budget costs (what a joke to leave them out) hit home and people realize what a marginal cause it was. I know you and I won't agree on that, but a significant slice of the electorate does, and it has grown over time.

Right now Bush is not winning outside his base. We will know he has turned the tide when he gets approval numbers across the issues in the upper 50's and keeps them.

Not there yet.
