Yes, it was working before Office 2003 was installed.

And none of those solutions in that link worked. Uninstalling Norton didn't work either - some things were still there.

I have no idea what "wild tangent" was. My computer guy (Tom) got it last week from who knows where (his security is much higher than mine) and he says it is similar to a worm.
