Good idea, I can trace my family name back to 1066, but not all the individual generations. When I get time, I will list a bunch of surnames that go back to the Border Reivers who lived near the borders of England and Scotland and have produced many high profile people in this country. My family is from that part of the world after they moved to Britain during the Norman invasion of 1066. The Normans were descended from Vikings, so I might have viking ancestry, but I have Mediteranean features, so go figure. There's some very interesting history from there. They had special laws separate from the regular English and Scottish laws to try to control that area. It was never really controlled until 1605 when England and Scotland united under the same king. It was very tribal, kind of like Afghanistan/Pakistan today.
This'll make a change from all the political stuff, thanks.
