RE: Do you have any ideas on most efficient approach?

Not really. In my case, I only know for sure back to my grandparents. My mother says her father was the illegitimate son of a local Duke, so I am really disinherited royalty! His mother worked in the Duke's kitchen, so was seduced by her employer. I guess that was OK to do back then. I'd have to go back to my neck of the woods and start looking through church records for evidence of christenings, weddings etc. I know where two of my uncles from my father's side are buried, they were both victims of World War I. I intend to do research one day, but I don't know when that will be.
