I think McCain is trying to inoculate Kerry from the smear attacks by the extremists (especially the religious fundamentalists). IMHO, these comments are aimed at the voters that matter: moderate Republicans (like myself) and independents. McCain is saying to Americans: Kerry is OK, he will be a fine President. That is all he has to say. I would like to see McCain in the cabinet. SecDef would be a great position. I also think he would be a great SecState!
