A true Ponzi scheme requires that you continue to recruit more and more participants to pay off the earlier round of participants.
Oh. Well. That WAS the original idea. Trouble is, there's been a glitch along the way: the baby bust. So now we get generational warfare as the old farts in the AARP fight it out with the kids doing the work.

I'm betting on the old farts. At least till too many die. Then I'd bet SS dies because the lesson will have been learned.

(1) taxes are raised
Yup. The young squirts will really appreciate that. Maybe even remember it.

benefits are cut
Not yet. "Third rail of American politics", remember?

that means you
If it's done that way, it means you too.

Now this scheme on the part of the squirts might work. Divide and conquer.

money is borrowed to tide the system over until the boomers have all died off
From WHO, exactly? The furriners? They've already gone home. The old farts? They're supposed to be GETTING it, remember? The squirts? They're already being taxed to support the old farts.

But when the boom is over, you don't need to recruit more people into the system just to pay for it. With a stable population growth rate and stable benefit levels, there is no reason why the system must be a Ponzi scheme.
And in Heaven the plumbing always works. Care to return to reality and we'll continue?

Your antagonism toward government spending and government benefits is well knows
But you're still pushing welfare, libbie.

Got a question: How did anyone live past, say, 60 or 65, BEFORE SS? You think no one did?
