Two months is one thing, but the study didn't mention anything about that. Instead, they surveyed a bunch of kids ages 12 to 18, then surveyed them again six years later. A lot can happen in six years, including puberty (though that seems to happen around 10 these days), adulthood, college, changing of belief systems, family transitions, etc. The temptation to drop a pledge made in youth becomes greater and greater, especially since the sex drive increases during that time period.

Of course, the study doesn't come to any conclusion about whether those pledges were made in good faith at the time they were made. It only comes to the conclusion that sex education must be taught to everyone, and that teaching abstinence is futile and counterproductive when it comes to preventing STDs.
