<<<Thanks for that great ADSL site. I'm also hoping that companies such as Macromedia will provide the content production tools necessary to use the enhanced bandwidth to its maximum extent.>>>

Fibonacci --

Going through the Canadian information this week-end, I noticed several funds/corporations have been set up specifically to support R&D for Internet content. One, I believe, in conjunction with the Canadian broadcast and film industry, another simply for multi-media. I have no doubt whatsoever that content will mirror bandwidth, if not actually lead the way.

Switching topics just slightly, I'm also wondering if Canada isn't preparing for VDSL. With the convergence of broadcasting and telecommunications as of January 1, 1998, and their nearly ubiquitious fiber network running from coast to coast, and "all the way to Berlin," it seems as though there won't be much to stop them. I'm trying to find out about BC's latest trials in London and Repentigny specifically for broadcasting. So far I can't find a word on what equipment they'll be testing other than they'll be using fiber optic and coax cable along with set-top boxes, with one article saying it was "not like traditional cable." The descriptions sound very similar to HKT's.

At any rate, if you or anyone else has any information, please let me know.

Canada claims it will be the world's first digital economy and I believe they may make it.

Cheers!

Pat
