wstera, I may be in the minority in this opinion, but the Chronicle (and any publication) has the right to protect itself and its writers from being copied without permission. This is not repression in any way- from either right or left. To publish someone's material is an infringement of copyright law and has nothing at all to do with free speech. People earn their living with their words and when we "steal" them, it is the same as if we stole a tailor's custom suit, or a silversmith's goblet. This law is their only protection over their material and where and how it is used. SI rules have always been very clear on this and most of us have tended to ignore them.
We may not agree, or like it, but it shouldn't be confused with some sort of partisan repression.
