FONAR Sells 68th Stand-Up MRI to Texas Pain Center Where Customer Wants 'The Complete Picture'

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--03/10/2004--FONAR Corporation (NASDAQ-FONR), The MRI Specialist(TM), announced today the sale of its 68th FONAR Stand-Up(TM) MRI to Advanced Imaging, Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas.

When Dr. Tony Aboudib, president of Advanced Imaging, was asked to identify the primary reason he decided to purchase the Stand-Up(TM) MRI, he said, "We want to be able to obtain a complete diagnostic picture of our patients' problems, and the Stand-Up(TM) MRI is the only diagnostic device that can. The Stand-Up(TM) MRI's unique ability to do Position(TM) Imaging (pMRI(TM)) makes it the most exciting new entry in the field of medical diagnostics. Right now, we have two fairly new MRI scanners at our facilities, one open and one closed. But these, like all other MRIs available today, are recumbent-only scanners and, therefore, fall short of providing a complete picture of my patients' pathology. Simply put, the Stand-Up(TM) MRI sees everything, not just what can be seen with the patient lying down. Its unique Upright(TM) Imaging feature allows anatomy to be imaged in normal, upright, weight-bearing positions, either sitting or standing. Further, anatomy can be imaged in positions in which the patient experiences pain, such as bending at the hip or holding one's arm in a certain position. The goal in diagnostic imaging is to learn as much about the patient's problem as possible. When the complete picture is available, why would any referring physician rely on anything less? As FONAR says, 'The proof is in the picture.'"

Dr. Aboudib continued, "Our pain center in Fort Worth is currently equipped with a 16-slice CT scanner, a C-arm, X-ray, ultrasound, bone densitometry, and an MRI. A good portion of our business is performing myelograms, discograms, and epidural steroid injections. We plan on moving the existing MRI to another location and expanding the facility to include a surgery center and the FONAR Stand-Up(TM) MRI. The Stand-Up(TM) MRI's ability to provide information that is critical to surgeons makes it a perfect fit for the surgery center."

"We expect our FONAR Stand-Up(TM) MRI to be up and running this summer. It's a very exciting project and we're proud to be the first healthcare provider in the Fort Worth area to bring this revolutionary medical technology to our community," concluded Dr. Aboudib.

Sol Ginzburg, vice president of sales at FONAR, said, "It's always exciting when a customer grasps the diagnostic advantages of the Stand-Up(TM) MRI with such enthusiasm. We look forward to working with Dr. Aboudib and seeing his center grow and prosper."

The Stand-Up(TM) MRI, which scans patients sitting, standing, bending or lying down, has detected pathology that had gone undetected on conventional lie-down MRIs. With its front and top open design, the FONAR Stand-Up(TM) MRI provides the most patient comfort of any MRI in the industry.
