Kerry blasts Republicans as 'liars' Democratic presidential challenger John Kerry sharpened the tone of an already bitter battle with President George W Bush, branding his Republican opponents a "crooked, lying group". His remarks followed a week of intense exchanges between the camps, including another veiled attack by Bush railing against those who would "build a wall" around the United States on the trade front. Kerry, who moved close to formally sewing up the Democratic nomination with victories in four more party contests, visited a sheet metal factory to press his assault on Bush's economic policies. When one of the workers urged him to keep smiling Kerry responded: "Don't worry, man. We're going to keep pounding. Let me tell you. We are just beginning to fight here. "These guys are the most crooked, you know, lying group I have ever seen. It's scary," Kerry said. Kerry's spokesman David Wade later said the comments targeted the "Republican attack machine" and not Bush or Vice President Dick Cheney directly.
