Mind you I'm not pitching for a commercial product, but I have been very satisfied with Family Tree Maker 11. It permits you do do a complete scrapbook for each individual, showing their ancestry in a number of different formats, and many other displays of relevant information. If you copy information into the notes, such as data from a cemetery or newspaper accounts, you can get it to appear in one of the reports.

I'm amazed at the amount of research people have done about Confederate veterans. I'm a Yankee myself but my ancestors were Rebs and they were proud enough of it to document a lot of information.

There are even ways for Native Americans to research their lineage. Some of the Cemetery indexes are African American -- obviously many of them were slaves. It's a fascinating subject.
