As far as I know, new non-subscribing members cannot post. But, SI has a LARGE number of grandfathered and Lifetime members.

That is correct. Silicon Investor runs on a "Pay to post" model currently. The new version won't. It'll run iHub's "Post for free; pay for extra features" model. On iHub, free posters can post 3 messages per day until Matt approves their account, which upgrades them to 18 posts per day. That number really should come down on iHub (if I remember to get around to it) and it'll be a lot lower on SI.

Free posting limits will be extremely tight here compared to iHub. Fewer posts per day and very likely a limitation on where free members can post.

Before anyone criticizes the business sense of changing to iHub's business model, let me say that we've been running them both side-by-side for something like 9 months now, and iHub's subscription income is far higher than SI's.

I believe Brad was planning to change the model similarly before Go2Net yanked the reins out of his hands. I know for sure he was planning to do away with Lifetime subscriptions. Edit: I don't mean yanking existing ones. I mean not selling new ones. Just like we did shortly after we took over.
