Identix win affirmed, shares explode

Shares of Identix Inc. were up 79 cents, or 17.4 percent, during afternoon trading Thursday after the Minnetonka-based maker of identification technologies announced it had won a contract to be the sole provider of biometrics services for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

The initial win, which was announced in October, had been contested by another firm.

DHS selected Identix (Nasdaq: IDNX) to create 10-print live scan fingerprint booking stations and desktop systems. The deal is worth approximately $27 million to Identix over 60 months, according to a statement
