Yes, indeed. The Mormon church is very active in geneology and has an entire building (at least) devoted to it in Salt Lake. I've been to that building. I believe the interest in geneology stems from the belief that one will greet his family in heaven.

I noticed a lot of discussion about geneology on other forums I'm following and, since I couldn't find an existing sI forum on the subject, I decided to start one.

Congratulations--first time I've seen a Genealogy forum at SI. The Mormons website has a searchable database of numerous church records from around the world. Evidently it's a tenet of their religion for members to research their family; so they microfilmed extensive global church records & made them available for everyone. The site is:
