Re: They started to point to Al Qaeda but are still looking for clues.

Well, first, "Al-Qaeda" is a buzzword crafted by US intelligence... so, to claim that "Al-Qaeda" perpetrated 311 (the Madrid mass murder) is either meaningless or tantamount to claim that US/Israeli intelligence is behind it...

Now, even if some Arab/Islamic terrorist outfit were involved, it would have relied on ETA manpower anyway! For two reasons: first because ETA leaders empathize with Arab freedom fighters and oppose the Iraqi crusade:

Message 19871710

Only yesterday, Basque leader Arnold Otegi (*), while disclaiming any responsibility for 311, referred to the "Arab RESISTANCE" (sic) as the possible culprit --he didn't call them "terrorists".... Second, ETA operatives have the best know-how to carry out mutliple bombings in Madrid --Basque terrorists can easily blend into the crowd and are much less conspicuous than "ugly Arab darkies"....

Therefore, the whole scheme might very well be a joint-venture of sorts... My guess is that for, say, one million dollars, ETA members were eager to do a hackwork. After all, they are in dire straits: most of their historical/political leaders are in jail (either in France or in Spain). And they're strapped for cash --racketeering the shopkeepers and businesspeople in the Basque country only makes them unpopular among their own constituency.

Bottom line: I'm afraid ETA rogues were bribed into Spain's most devastating terrorist attack --hence they didn't claim responsibility... Since they didn't do it for "the cause", for Basque independence but merely to refill their bank accounts....
