OT For short term trading purposes, I think the best (and safest) money can be made during periods of Sideways action. It allows positions to be taken and built for later. It gives minute to minute losses time to become gains with patience as trading demand ebbs and flows.

As opposed to group run off the cliff up/down type environments where you have to be immediately right or suffer the consequences.
