/// Some 54% said his use of 9/11 imagery was inappropriate, and only 42% - his base - said it was appropriate///

The figures on this puzzle me. Suppose I had lost someone I loved on 9/11, and suppose I had a positive emotional response to those ads, either because I was a Bush supporter or despite the fact that I wasn't. But let's say I was a Bush fan.

All I'd have to hear is that some survivors of that day, some of those who lost people, maybe mostly Kerry supporters, found it painful to have that image flashed up on the screen for campaign purposes, and I'd understand that it was inappropriate simply because it was distressing to them.

There's a certain "How dare he" feeling about it, if so many of the survivors are offended. Not using the image hurts only Bush (possibly); using it hurts a lot of people who've been hurt enough.

Bad judgment, bad taste, imo.
