<The only point I was making is that we cannot enter into a treaty that surrenders sovereignty.> We do not enjoy global sovereignty. Treaties between sovereign nations exist to reflect the overlapping interests of sovereign nations. We are not alone in the world. If we want to live in a healthy, safe and prosperous world, we must enter into agreements. Our standing in the world community depends on our willingness to honor the agreements into which we have freely entered. Treaties are not about our sovereignty versus some "supreme" entity -- they are about the agreements that we enter as a sovereign nation and the role we play in the global community of sovereign nations. A person is only as good as their word -- same for sovereign nations.
